A FASHION DILEMMA

Organizing school plays is tough work. If you’ve managed one, you know what I’m talking about. I had the good fortune of being in charge of this year’s wardrobe department at our local schools drama festival. It’s a yearly festival that showcases well known creations of the world’s great writers, that allow students to actively participate and uncover their talents, where volunteers from around the community such as myself come together to create a successful event.

The beauty about this year’s group of student actors and actresses was the diversity that they brought to the production. I have to say, I think these students were Glee inspired, with a lot more students participating in this year’s festival. I loved the wide representation, but it made dressing them a nightmare, especially with regards to women’s footwear. I had such a hard time looking for women’s shoes for the actresses. These children had the widest range of shoe sizes I had ever seen in a school production. From the tiniest, petite feet, to gigantic, athletic feet, and I was pumped for the challenge.

I started off trolling the shoe shops downtown looking for women’s boots, but after the 11th store I was ready to pull my hair out and run down the street screaming! It was exhausting! It’s bad enough trying to shop for shoes for yourself, but imagine shopping for shoes for a whole drama department! I was up to my wits ends trying to keep track of the discounts and specials these stores provided, as we were on a tight budget. My feet were killing me, I felt a migraine coming on, was in dire need of a good massage, and I just know that the shoe sales people were glad to get rid of me when I left the store. So I called it a day, and headed on home after a tiring and rather unsuccessful shoe hunt.

After venting my frustrations on Facebook, I started aimlessly browsing the web, and ran a few Google searches for women’s fall boots. That’s when it hit me that I should take my shoe hunting to the web and start shopping for women’s shoes online. So instead of store hopping (which was a complete pain in the back), I decided to go site hopping.

And it was perfect! I’d just punch in a few keywords, like women’s shoes, women’s boots, women’s footwear etc and viola, a whole catalogue of shoes would appear which I would sort from cheapest to pricey, then key in a few more preferences, like shoe size, and women’s fall boots which was what I was after, to get a much more targeted list of shoes. I used online price comparisons as well, and amazingly was able to purchase all women’s boots while keeping within our budget! Shopping for women’s shoes online saved me a lot of time, money and pain, and I was able to get all the sizes we needed for the actresses without breaking a sweat. I only wish I had thought of this a day and 11 shops earlier!
