A STICKY SITUATION

Got up late last night to get a drink of water, and found my nephew staring blankly at what looked like homework on the dinner table. Considering that it was 2 o’clock in the morning, I assumed correctly that it was probably an assignment due that morning, and like usual, my nephew decided to leave it to the last minute to get done. Apparently, it was a presentation based on a brief history of your family, and this presentation format was based on the student’s choice. So after dishing out a piece of my mind on this last minute business, I brewed some seriously strong coffee and sat down to brainstorm with my nephew.

After throwing around some crazy suggestions, we finally settled on creating a collage of photos to depict various important events in our family’s history. It was simple, and more importantly, doable in the few hours we had before the start of school. All we needed were some old photo, glue sticks, scissors and a vanguard sheet. Luckily, we had all the materials needed to make it work. So with the help of some strong caffeine for me, and a pinch of creativity for the both of us, we dove straight in.

Luckily for us, we actually had two types of glue, the general school glue, and some washable glue, which was more than sufficient for the task at hand. After a short search, we located what we were looking for. We pulled out some shoe boxes of old Polaroid’s accumulated over the years, and sifted through the photos, sorting the ones that we needed and chucking back the ones that we didn’t. Looking at those pictures brought back nostalgic memories, but due to the timeframe we had, we didn’t have time to sit back and reminisce. We managed to gather a good collection of photos, which had stories behind them that my nephew was familiar with.

Come to think of it, I can’t remember the last time I used glue sticks, let alone school glue, but last night, these handy sticks were our best friend. I remember back in the day when we used to use those glue bottles, which was so untidy, and the glue would seep out and create a mess. I would find it impossible to keep my fingers from getting all sticky, and it would just irritate the living daylights out of me. Thank god for the creators of the glue stick.

After some tasteful snipping and gluing, we had a pretty colorful, eye catching collage of family photos. It was a simple creation, which was easy to follow. Nothing fancy or overly artistic, but it got the job done. After rounding off with the finishing touches to the collage, we did a couple of practice runs to build my nephews confidence in presenting. With collage in hand, and some serious lack of sleep, my nephew rocked out to take on and dazzle his peers. And, I’m proud to say, he got an A for his project. Not bad for a last minute job!
